Queens Tower Sheffield - Multicom GSM Project

THE PROBLEM

The Grade II listed building was converted into blocks of apartments in 2004. With vehicle and pedestrian gates to control access to the outer perimeter, security is of the upmost importance to the residents of the Queen’s Tower development. In 2020 the existing hard wired BUS system was becoming uneconomical to repair and with existing cable infrastructure damaged a replacement access control system for the residents was needed. The requirement was for residents to be contacted and allow access remotely to visitors at vehicle and pedestrian gates and also to each individual block. The residents and management also needed Proximity cards to access at all intercom points within the system.


THE SPECIFICATION

Synergy Security Systems proposed an AES Multicom Classic GSM intercom with built in proximity reader on each of the 15 entrances around the development. A number of product features suited the application.

- Large LCD Display with clear instructions for the user
- Name directory option to scroll through users for calling
- Proximity reader inbuilt for up to 750 users
- Up to 250 unique access control keypad codes
- Temporary codes for contractors and deliveries
- Built in time clock to control gate opening and closing


Why GSM?
The Multicom Classic GSM solution was perfect for this site as it meant there was no need to run cables between the gates, access panels and residents’ apartments. This meant a significant reduction in labour time and materials whilst future proofing against and further episodes of cable issues around the development.

What about the sim cards?
Synergy Security Solutions took a managed sim package from AES Global Telecom meaning all the equipment and ongoing costs could be managed in one place on a rolling basis. These unlimited sims utilising the Vodafone network are for unlimited usage so there are no surprise bills.
